Its week five here in the beautiful U.S of A. It is quite a privilege to be on a gig of this nature. I'm sure that an Editor's life doesn’t usually include journeys to far flung destinations to do a job that usually has a habitat of soft walls and no windows.

My Edit suite is in a beautiful home with wildlife chirping and a king-size bed which wouldn't feel out of place in a 5* hotel.
My basic week consists of managing material that the team have shot, which then needs to be digitised into the edit and then that material is assembled into rough sequence ready to be sent back to the UK where the fine edit takes Place (in the normal surroundings of a post production facility).
Let me break it down.
All the footage the team brings back each day has to be watched, and I must then find a story which serves a purpose for you the viewer.
I will hopefully finish with a timeline between 1-2 hours which I then review with my producer TPL (if his job sounds easier then mine don't believe it. Read his blog).
We then come up with the loose spine of each part for each show which we then hand over to an equally formidable team in Soho who add the fairy dust to entertain you for 46 minutes a week.
My job is something that is usually all done in that same suite at the facility where this show is sculpted. That is why my job is unique. I have been given an amazing opportunity to create if only loosely the great show we all enjoy, whilst jet setting to the most incredible places in the world.
I feel like an incredibly fortunate cog in a wheel which supports the rollercoaster of ‘The Next Chapter’
I have in the past been in the edit suite in not so sunny Soho, and whenever on tour (although it is amazing) I wish that I was the editor to create the final magic that is delivered on ITV2 @ 9 o'clock every Thursday starting on 16th April (not that you need the reminder). But the grass is never greener and the experiences and memories that I have of being on tour will never be transmitted (so you will have to watch the behind the scenes to catch a glimpse)
The truth is that this is unlike any other edit job. Not because of all the hard work or that I will have an input on every show, but because on Saturday I woke up in a house full of friends who convinced me to join them at Zuma Beach and enjoyed a sun kissed afternoon. Whilst my colleagues caught a wave or two, I took pictures (well someone has to document it for you).
I hope to fill you in with more in the future, well that is as long as the surf doesn’t keep me from my laptop!
