2009 was a rollercoaster year for us at Can TV.
It’s been a challenging but ultimately rewarding year and I hope in that time we made some good tele which kept you all entertained.
But it’s certainly been a year of change for us.
Having produced Katie and Peter: The Next Chapter for the last 3 years, it was a real shock to us when they split and for a while I think we all wondered what we would be doing next. But I don’t think any of us on the production team were prepared for the massive amount of public interest in the split and the huge wave of public support that Pete received. Once Pete was ready to continue filming we carried on making the reality show with just him. It was very sad to see Pete so down at the beginning but we were all amazed by how much love he received from the public and I think it really helped him through what has been a really difficult time for him.
Anyone that watches any of Pete’s reality shows knows he is a really genuine, humble and lovely man who has been on a massive journey over the last few months and we were with him every step of the way. With the release of his new album there have been massive ups, along with some inevitable downs as he copes with his new status as a single dad.
Through going on this big journey with him, as a reality crew we have bonded with Pete more than I have ever managed with any other celebrity I have filmed with. Through the trust we have built up, I hope we have managed to provide you the viewers with a level of access that has rarely been seen before on a reality show. It was a journey for all of us as well, and I personally put my heart and soul into that series in an attempt to truly and accurately reflect the story we were seeing unfold around us and to make it as emotional and entertaining as possible. My job included overseeing all the filming with my trusty sidekick Mike, and then involved taking all the footage into the edit to produce the shows including writing the script and choosing the music. I really hope you all enjoyed it.
At the end of the year after we had finished making the series with Pete we moved onto making a reality show with Nicola McLean called “Nicola McLean: Studs and Stilettos.” Having been working with Kate and Pete for so long it was a good challenge for all of us to try and create something new from scratch. It’s a very different show to Kate and Pete but I think that both Nicola and Tom are very watchable and the issues they face in their lives are equally as interesting. I feel proud of what we achieved in a short period for this programme.
Overall, working for Can TV this year has been a great experience. I’ve worked for a lot of TV companies in my career and without doubt I have never been at a company like Can. We work hard but also play hard and it’s great to feel so valued somewhere, particularly in this industry
