Karen Bonnici talks about her role in The Next Chapter

I have worked on each series since the beginning of the Next Chapter back in December 06.

It is part of my job to budget and schedule the series and build the Production and Editing teams.

We are a small young team that works really hard and is unlike any other that I have worked with in the many years I have been involved with the TV business.  Some of the guys working on this show I have seen grow up from their first jobs in television to becoming today talented Producer’s and Directors of the series.

I also have to deliver the dreaded “Post Production Paperwork” (the paper version of the show containing all the legal contracts and boring but very important nuts and bolts) This involved watching each show about 5 times at least, normally back to back and I have to say I still really enjoy it.

I have managed to have my second baby boy between series 5 and Stateside, and am glad to see the team are producing even better shows for you with me out of the way, and not nagging them so much, I have handed that honour to a fantastic Production Manager, Jaki Clarke for the time being.

The arrival of my little man has actually worked out quite well as with all the sleepless nights I am more on LA time than UK time, should on the rare occasion some one need to contact me for the odd piece of advice.

My next challenge (other than juggling the family and work) is to keep the “can” ship safe, happy and balanced for all the exciting things coming your way in the not so distant future and to ensure that this rollercoaster ride just keeps on getting faster, bigger and better.
